Research, Education and Outreach

At The Green Gift, our mission is to inspire K-12 students to explore and pursue STEM pathways, with a special focus on environmental science and conservation. We believe that curiosity about our planet starts early, and by connecting young learners to real-world environmental challenges, we can spark a lifelong passion for discovery and innovation. Through hands-on experiences, community engagement, and mentorship, we aim to introduce students to Environmental STEM (E-STEM) fields and empower them to see themselves as future scientists, problem-solvers, and environmental stewards. There is still so much to learn about our environment, and the next generation will play a critical role in protecting and sustaining it.

The Green Gift Graduate Award

Is Back!

The Green Gift Graduate Research Awards are back for 2026, continuing our flagship initiative to support emerging scholars dedicated to strengthening communities, protecting natural resources, and advancing innovation in environmental STEM fields. Launched in 2025, this program empowers graduate students across Alabama by reducing financial barriers, encouraging community-focused research, and preparing the next generation of leaders in science, industry, and public service. Open to eligible Master’s and Ph.D. students committed to academic excellence and real-world impact, the awards highlight and invest in the groundbreaking work shaping a more sustainable future.

E-STEM Outreach

We participate in E-STEM outreach activities to spark curiosity in youth, because we believe wonder is where learning begins. These moments of discovery can light a lifelong passion, turning questions into dreams and dreams into futures. By showing up, we’re not just teaching—we’re inspiring young minds to imagine, explore, and believe in what’s possible. Every interaction is a chance to plant a seed of confidence and creativity that could grow into something extraordinary.

The Green Gift Award Banquet

Until Next Year!

The Green Gift extends heartfelt thanks to all our sponsors, partners, volunteers, and community supporters who made this year’s Graduate Research Awards Banquet a success. Special appreciation goes to Redstone Federal Credit Union, R8ed Barber & Style Shop, Apple Lane Farms, and Salt Smokehouse for their generosity and partnership.

We are equally grateful to the dedicated volunteers—especially friends from Leadership Greater Huntsville’s Spark Class 5—whose service and enthusiasm helped bring the evening to life. To our community members and individual donors, thank you for believing in our mission and helping us continue empowering students, supporting research, and inspiring positive change.
